Step off the Mainland & Visit Shark Island

Monday 3 May (Day Tour)

Overview

Date: Monday 3rd May, 2021
Time: 10.00am - 3.00pm

Please join me for a day of exploration and creating art en plein air.

We depart Circular Quay by private water taxi for a short ride up the Harbour to Shark Island.  This fascinating destination has harbour views in every direction.

Shark Island is 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) in area and located near Point Piper, Rose Bay and Vaucluse. Named Boambilly by the local Aboriginal people the current name comes from its shape.

It has been the site of drownings, shipwrecks and at least one shark attack.  Parts of the island were set   aside as a recreation reserve as early as 1879 as well as an animal quarantine station and naval depot until 1975 when it became exclusively a recreation reserve and part of Sydney Harbour National Park.

Just off the northern tip of the island is Shark Island Light, an active pile lighthouse, built in 1913.
