CLASS INFORMATION
ABOUT HERMAN PEKEL
Herman is an entertaining and passionate master of
Australian impressionism with an energetic teaching style and infectious sense of humour. He excels in the mediums of watercolour, acrylic and oil and frequently applies nontraditional painting methods. Herman’s passion is the ‘freedom of spontaneity’ when working en plein air in order to capture the fleeting glow and subtle shifts of light across the landscape.
With a Fine Arts degree from RMIT and a Diploma of Teaching from Melbourne University he has won the Camberwell Rotary’s Gold Medal Watercolour Prize in 1989, 1993, 1995 and 2006 and been a finalist in Camberwell’s Travel Scholarship award. He won the Alice Bale Watercolour Prize in 1989 and 1993 in addition to winning the Travel Scholarship the same year. Herman is a member of ‘The Twenty Melbourne Painters Society’, ‘The Australian Guild of Realist Artists’ and ‘The Victorian Artists Society’. He has had 15 solo shows and exhibits regularly in USA.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Herman will cover all aspects of successful painting using frequent demonstrations and detailed analysis. Beginning with simpler compositions you will learn how to recognise major shapes, understand tone, place figures in your work and master techniques from dry brush to wet in wet.
