OVERVIEW
Please join me for a tour of fjord land which includes Bergen and Oslo.
We will experience, at a slow pace, the majesty of the great outdoors in Norway. To avoid endless checking in/out of accommodation we’ll be based only in Bergen and Oslo. Some days, with our private guide and vehicle we’ll be off the tourist track to explore, draw, photograph and relax. Other days we’ll cruise along fjords and take world famous train journeys. Travellers in this group are mostly drawing and painting however non artists are welcome.

- Smart casual clothing, mostly for summer weather but allow for cool changes

- A thermos is useful when walking in nature without a cafe close by
WHAT TO BRING – art equipment
You are encouraged to work to your own strength and with your preferred medium.
Group appraisals and discussions are a constant source of inspiration.
Beginner:
- 2b pencil, rubber, drawing book (not too small), portable stool
Experienced:
- any art materials and surfaces you prefer

ITINERARY
DAY ONE / Thursday 11 July
Arrive Bergen and Hotel Thon Rosenkrantz in the heart of Bergen.
Welcome group dinner amongst the colourful houses on the old wharf in Bryggen.
DAY TWO / Friday 12 July
3 x hour guided walking tour of Bergen, the old Hanseatic capital on the west coast of Norway. This famous trading town and fishing community is the gateway to the fjords and western mountains.
An afternoon ride on the Fløibanen Funicular to the Mount Fløyen summit. This is an excellent vantage point to try your drawing skills with vistas of Bergen, its harbour and the outlying archipelago. Alternatively choose one of the walking tracks along the summit.
DAY THREE / Saturday 13 July
A day of discovery outdoors with our private guide/driver. Bring your art materials and record the majesty of fjord country at a leisurely pace.
DAY FOUR / Sunday 14 July
A ‘free’ day to choose from the many tours on offer or simply to explore the Bergen environs. Jenny Tucker, Travelpartners will reserve these tours in advance if you wish.
DAY FIVE / Monday 15 July
Fjord cruise to Barony Rosendal, an historic estate and a guided tour of the Manor dating from 1665. This day long cruise crosses the fjords south of Bergen to the Hardanger – ‘queen’ of the fjords. Lunch at Rosendal Café includes fresh ingredients from the garden. Stroll amongst the abundance of roses in the gardens and bring your art materials!
DAY SIX / Tuesday 16 July
Depart Bergen after breakfast for transfer to Oslo by the frequently described ‘world’s finest train trip’.
This is the route of the day long journey:
- train Bergen – Voss
- bus Voss – Gudvangen
- fjord cruise Gudvangen-Flåm (includes entry to Flåm Railway Museum in Flåm)
- train Flãm – Myrdal
- train Myrdal – Oslo
Luggage is transported separately to our 3* Hotel (Comfort Grand Central)
DAY SEVEN / Wednesday 17 July
3 x hour guided walking tour of Oslo with Oslo Pass*
*Oslo Pass offers free entry to 30 museums and attractions, free travel on public transport, entry to outdoor swimming pools, concert tickets and more.
Afternoon visit to draw and explore the Vigeland Sculptures in Frogner Park, the most popular tourist destination in Norway. It features 212 bronze and granite sculptures, all designed by Gustav Vigeland between1924-1943.
DAY EIGHT / Thursday 18July
Leisure day for optional excursions. Reserve these tours in advance if you wish, with Jenny Tucker, Travelpartners.
DAY NINE / Friday 19 July
Visit Ekeburg Park with an international art collection and wonderful views of the city and islands like Hovedøya. Perfect for walking and relaxing on the grass and a treasure trove of sculptures around the park. We’ll find James Turrell’s magical light installation under the reflecting pool; take a welcome drink at Lund’s House and learn about the origins of the park and museum.
We’ll choose a destination for our final en plein air session and a group appraisal of our Norway artwork.
Farewell group lunch or dinner at EkeBerg Restaurant.
DAY TEN / Saturday 20 July
Tour ends with group transfer to Oslo airport. If you are joining my Scotland tour you will be accommodated at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow tonight (at no charge).
