Practical Colour Theory

Learn the theory of colour and its practical application.  

Discover the three primary colours needed to create other colours of the spectrum.  Used effectively colour can set a mood, create ambience or attract attention. We’ll choose a different subject each week beginning with the colour wheel and then tints/shades/chroma;  earth colours;  colour relationship;  analogous and complementary colours; how to make shadows interesting and much more.  This course is suitable for anyone interested in colour.

CURRICULUM

New students:

  • Colour wheel
  • Grey scale
  • Warm and cool colours
  • Making a grey to enhance a pure pigment
  • Tint/shade/chroma
  • Analagous colours
  • Complementary colours
  • Colour glazing
  • Create grey and black with primary colours

 

Returning students:

  • Skin colour
  • Earth pigments
  • Watercolour brushstrokes
  • Shadow colours

WHAT TO BRING

Please do not bring your own materials.
At the beginning of term you will be provided with:
  • 10 Schminke watercolours
  • set of 6 brushes
  • watercolour Yupo pad,
  • 12 x half metal palette box and water containers.
  • Create your own colour wheel kit
